They received international attention with the release of the single "Kryptonite". The single crossed over several formats, peaking at number one on rock, alternative and pop radio. The album went on to sell over six million copies. "Be Like That" was one of the main songs on the soundtrack of American Pie 2 (2001). The first two lines of the version of the song that appears on the soundtrack are different from the original version of the song, it was asked to be changed so that it would better suit the film. The follow up album proved to be just as successful. In 2002, Away from the Sun was released with the first single being "When I'm Gone". The song featured a video in tribute to American troops, filmed during the band's October 2 concert aboard the US Navy aircraft carrier USS George Washington while anchored in Lisbon, Portugal. The original video featured the band being buried in mud, but was ultimately scrapped for the footage of them playing on the USS George Washington. The song remained on the charts for almost a year, again garnering multiple format airplay from rock to pop to alternative radio. The ballad "Here Without You" became another multi-format success, doing especially well in the adult contemporary space, while the singles "The Road I'm On" and "Away From The Sun" were minor hits. The album went on to sell over three million copies. 3 Doors Down released their third studio album, Seventeen Days, in 2005, and it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. While Daniel Adair played drums on the record, he decided to join Nickelback just weeks before its release. Thus the band had to quickly conduct auditions to find a new drummer in time for promotional shows, and ultimately signed Greg Upchurch, formerly of Puddle of Mudd. The album achieved platinum status in less than a month. Its first single, "Let Me Go" (originally intended for Spider-Man 2 but withheld), received much airplay, and was followed by a second song called "Behind Those Eyes." Also in 2005, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) used "Here Without You" as one of its two tribute songs for Eddie Guerrero. WWE also used "Behind Those Eyes" as one of the theme songs for that year's WrestleMania 21 event. In May, 2006 they played at the Dubai Desert Rock Festival in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Other notable bands that performed for the Dubai Desert Rock Festival were Megadeth and Testament. This was their first live concert in the Middle East.
